Your diet can be causing your breakouts!

We are what we eat, and our diet has a significant impact on our skin health. Though it is not yet scientifically proven how specific foods cause pimples directly, some foods that are high in a glycaemic load can set off a chain reaction which can be to blame for acne breakouts.

Foods to Avoid

Foods rich in glycaemic load which are commonly found in processed foods like fried chips, crackers, pastries and cookies, white bread, pasta, soft drinks, and juices affect your blood sugar and spike your insulin level, which in turn causes your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Too much oil can cause clogged pores which lead to pimples. 

What to eat to prevent breakouts

  1. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
  2. Opt for drinks that help flush out toxins. Drink lots of water (you can even add two teaspoons of apple cider to a glass of water now and then) or unsweetened tea! Doing this helps reduce your cravings for sweets while also balancing your blood sugar levels.
  3. Consume vitamin A which helps reduce sebum and promotes skin regeneration. Foods like carrots, spinach, papaya, and sweet potatoes!
  4. For the chocolate lovers: eat dark chocolate! Cocoa is great for that antioxidant boost that helps your skin fight free radicals.
  5. Don’t forget vitamin C that promotes your skin’s collagen production leading to a clearer complexion! So be sure to load up on citrus fruits, broccoli, and bean sprouts.
  6. Increase your omega-3 and omega-6 intake, unsaturated fatty acids found in salmon, avocados, nuts, and olive oil will keep your skin supple!
